TOEIC and BEC Business English Tests

TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication)

TOEIC is an English language proficiency test for people whose native language is not English. It measures how well you can communicate in English with others in a workplace situation. It tests the use of English in a general work/business area and you do not need specialized technical vocabulary. Many businesses worldwide use TOEIC to assist in the assessment of job applicants.

The test has two parts (Listening and Reading), with 200 multiple choice questions. There is no pass or fail. The TOEIC Score Report shows your overall reading and listening score which is a measure of your level of communicative English ability.

BEC (Business English Certificates)

The Business English Certificates (BEC) have been developed by Cambridge ESOL specifically for individual learners who wish to obtain a business-related English language qualification for use in a professional context. BEC is available at three levels: BEC Preliminary, BEC Vantage, and BEC Higher. We offer preparation courses for the Vantage and Higher tests.

The tests cover the four language skills - reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The same general topics are covered in the three levels of BEC, but the linguistic and skills requirements become more advanced.

Course content

Topics may be selected from the main thematic areas covered in the TOEIC and BEC tests, and include:

You will have regular practice tests which will help you to:

• understand the layout and structure of the tests
• develop confidence
• work quickly within time restrictions
• develop test strategies
• improve your General and Business English proficiency
• monitor your progress

Preparing for BEC or TOEIC

The Professional English program is the best one for students wishing to prepare for the TOEIC or BEC tests. This is 24 hours of study per week, and is taught in mini groups of up to 5 students. The courses include General and Business English with a focus on the skills you need to score well in the test.

Students wishing to do a more intensive preparation for one of the tests can do the Executive Business program which is custom-tailored to your personal needs, includes one-to-one private tutorials, and is limited to 4 students.

Entry Requirements

• Students should be at an Intermediate level of English, or above.
• Teaching groups are small (4 - 5 students).
• Flexible starting dates.
• Minimum age 24 years.
