TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication)

TOEIC is an English language proficiency test for people whose native language is not English. It measures how well you can communicate in English with others in a workplace situation. It does not test ‘Business English’, and you do not need specialized technical or business vocabulary. Many businesses worldwide use TOEIC to assist in the assessment of job applicants.

Port Douglas English Language Centre is an authorised TOEIC test centre, which means you can sit the TOEIC test at the end of your course at our centre. We will assist you to register for the exam. The results are normally available within three weeks, and you will receive the internationally recognised TOEIC certificate of achievment.

The test has two parts (Listening and Reading), with 200 multiple choice questions. There is no pass or fail. The TOEIC Score Report shows your overall reading and listening score which is a measure of your level of communicative English ability.

The full-time intensive TOEIC preparation course is taught in mini groups (3 – 6 students). The courses are from 4 – 10 weeks, and cover some General and Business English vocabulary, as well as focusing on the skills you need to score well in the test. These include identifying misleading information in listening and reading passages; learning key TOEIC words and essential grammar points; studying phrasal verbs and idiomatic expressions.

Topics are selected from the main thematic areas covered in the TOEIC test, and include:

• Finance / Marketing / Management
• Property / Travel / Health
• Technology and Technical Areas

You will have regular practice tests which will help you to:

• understand the layout and structure of the TOEIC test
• develop confidence
• work quickly within time restrictions
• develop test strategies
• improve your General and Business English proficiency
• monitor your progress

Entry Requirements and Fees

Students should be at a Lower Intermediate level of English, or above. Because teaching groups are small, we have flexible starting dates, and testing dates. We provide a TOEIC test at the end of your study program.

The course fee is $685 per week, and the TOEIC test fee is $145.
