General Information
About Us
Port Douglas English Language Centre, established in 1997, is a small, highly professional, family owned and run business, based in Port Douglas, a Great Barrier Reef coastal resort town in Tropical North Queensland, Australia. The centre's comfortable and friendly atmosphere ensures a productive learning environment. All of our courses are conducted in very small groups, with class sizes strictly limited to guarantee a high quality of learning.
The centre specialises in mini-group and one-to-one English language training. We provide tailored English courses for business executives and professionals and corporate clients. We also offer intensive general language courses at all levels, as well as First Certificate, CAE, Proficiency and IELTS examination courses. The teachers are well-qualified (British Masters degrees) and permanent.
The centre offers help with arranging accommodation and provides advice on academic and personal welfare matters. It is well-equipped with excellent library resources, audio/video facilities, and up-to-date computer equipment. A free email service (including wireless for your own laptop) is available to students.
The Cairns-Port Douglas region of North Queensland is a pristine tropical area where the rainforest and Great Barrier Reef meet. You can swim on the beautiful beaches, explore the rainforest, and dive or snorkel on the reef.
Port Douglas English Language Centre provides a pickup and transfer service from Cairns International Airport.
The Centre is centrally located, only a short walk the beach - you can walk or cycle anywhere. It is the perfect environment for combining a relaxed or adventurous holiday with English language training.

Accommodation
We will help you arrange suitable accommodation prior to your arrival.
As an international tourist destination, Port Douglas offers a wide range of accommodation. We can advise you about homestays, holiday apartments, hotel accommodation, and hostels. We can assist with bookings, and help negotiate the best price.
We recommend homestay accommodation, staying with an Australian family. It is an ideal way to learn more about Australian life and the local area, and of course offers a further opportunity to practise English. Homestay accommodation includes your own room and costs A$220 per week.
Please contact us for more information.
Entry Visas
To study at Port Douglas Language Centre you will need to have a Visitor (tourist) Visa, or a Working Holiday Visa. This will allow you to study in Australia for up to 12 weeks. Visa application forms are available from any Australian Embassy or Consulate, or can be downloaded direct from the Australian Department Of Immigration web site.
Health
To avoid unnecessary medical expenses in case of illness while in Australia we recommend you take out your own health insurance and travel insurance before you travel.
Health and travel insurance are available through your Travel Agent, and international health information can be obtained from the Smart Traveller website, the Australian government's travel information portal.
