Exam Preparation Courses

Port Douglas English Language Centre provides special courses to prepare students for the Cambridge First Certificate (FCE), the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), and the Cambridge Proficiency Examinations. We also have courses for the IELTS test, and for TOEIC.

The intensive programs, taught in mini teaching groups, are very popular, and the centre has an excellent success rate in the examinations.

If you are not sure of your level, we can arrange for an assessment test before you begin, so you will know which is the appropriate exam for you to enrol in.

Teaching groups are small and personal (average of 4 students per class, and a maximum of 6) to ensure students receive individual attention in the lead-up to the examination.

Teaching is for 25 hours per week - face-to-face with the teacher. An additional 5 hours per week of self-study is optional.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

IELTS is the most widely accepted English qualification for entry to university and tertiary institutions in Australia, New Zealand, and Britain. It is also used by the Immigration Department as a test of English proficiency.

You can begin an IELTS preparation course at any time. The exam is held in Cairns approximately twice each month.

Transport is provided to and from Cairns for the purpose of sitting the examination. There is no extra charge for this service. The length of the course is 4 - 12 weeks depending on your entry level.

Cambridge Examinations

The length of each course is 10 weeks. The study program focuses on the language and skills required for the exam. All Cambridge examination preparation courses include:

• Initial testing and needs analysis
• Intensive mini-group and one-to-one tuition
• Regular progress tests, counselling, and practice exams
• Progress report and certificate at the end of the study program

The courses finish immediately before the examination. Exams are held at the Cambridge Examinations Centre in Cairns. Transport is provided to and from Cairns for the purpose of sitting the examination. There is no extra charge for this service.
